The directorial debut from twenty-five year old
Elliot Greenebaum, ASSISTED LIVING
follows 21-year old Todd through his final
day of work at a nursing home. Todd
smokes a lot of pot on the job, which may
or may not help him deal with the surreal
environment of an assisted living facility.
He also breaks the monotony of his days by
entertaining the residents. At their most
innocent, Todd's diversions involve playing
pool and Scrabble…but he also "plays God"
on the telephone, giving residents the illusion
of speaking to their departed loved ones in
heaven. However these activities may affect his
senior charges, Todd's job is in constant jeopardy due to his tardiness and general lack of responsibility. Making ingenious use of a real assisted living facility in Kentucky, ASSISTED LIVING was initially designed to blur the line between documentary and fiction, but grew to become a fully developed story of compassion and redemption set in the "zone of privacy" that usually cloaks our society's uncomfortable relationship with the elderly. ASSISTED LIVING garnered Grand Jury Prizes at the Slamdance, Woodstock and GenArt Film Festivals. The film stars newcomer Michael Bonsignore and Maggie Reilly and was written and directed by Elliot Greenebaum. The film's producers are Alex Laskey, Alsan Oxman and Archie Borders.
